OBJECTIVES:
Learn how to initiate the add-in between Word and Endnote
Understand the principle of (the choice of) a "style" in endnote
ASSIGNMENT:
Insert a number of citations from your Endnote Library in the word document "mymanuscript.doc", using the numbered style (Vancouver) prescribed by the faculty (Vancouver-gw)
Change the style to the alphabetic APA style, prescribed by the faculty (APA-gw)
PROCEDURE:
RIGHT-click the link to link to MyFirstManuscript.doc and choose SAVE TARGET AS. Do NOT open this link directly (if you do so, close the document and start over)
Save the document to your I: drive
Open the document from there
Now you are ready to exercise "cite-while-you-write" skills
In word choose: menu Tools (Extra in the Dutch word version)
Choose "Endnote"
Choose: "Go to Endnote"
If Endnote is active yet, the Endnote window comes up as you left it
If Endnote is closed, Endnote will start, prompting you to make a choice
Select (if not active yet) "MyFirstLibrary.enl"
Choose the desired style (Vancouver gw) from the pull-down menu at the top of the Endnote window
Swap to Word
Select (the end of) a sentence where you want to insert a citation
Swap to Endnote
Select the reference(s) of your choice
In the Tools menu choose
"Cite while you write" > Insert selected citation(s).
NOTE: If "Cite while you write" shows gray, you may have forgotten
to give the initial "Go to endnote" command or to select one or
more citation
Repeat this procedure several times to look and feel the effect
In order to change the style: Swap to word
Menu Tools (Extra) > Endnote > Format Bibliography
Change the output style (Vancouver) to APA-gw and press OK
