EXERCISE 2 Skills training EndNote: How to import references from secondary sources (bibliographies, catalogues, internet) with importfilters in EndNote

PROCEDURE:

  1. Start the bibliographic source of your choice:

    1. From the University Library homepage choose:

    2. "UL information resources" (section "Catalogues and Information Resources") and

    3. select the source of your choice

  2. Create a set of records

  3. To Save, Mail., or Print the selection you made

    1. From PubMed

      1. Select the right download format:

        1. In the pull-down menu next to the Display button: Choose "Medline"

        2. Press the Display button

      2. Save the download to a destination

        1. In the pull down menu next to the Send To button Choose: "File"

        2. Press the Send To button

          1. Choose "Save" and select the desired target drive and folder

          2. Enter the desired filename and click OK

          3. The file will be saved now with the extension ".fcgi". This file may be imported in Endnote, continue this procedure there

    2. From WebSPIRS database (Medline, PsycInfo, EMBASE, IFLP etc.)

      1. Press the "Save" or "Send" button (in webspirs a floppy or mail icon respectively)

      2. Take care: the right download format should be chosen!

    3. From Library Catalogue (OPC) and Online Contents (OLC)

      2. Settlements for University Library Catalogue (Online Public Catalogue, OPC) downloads

  1. In EndNote choose File menu Import

    1. Choose File: Select the download file that must be imported form your I:drive

    2. Import Option: select "other filters", select the matching importfilter (Information Provider is university library Maastricht) to your download

  2. Click the import button

  3. Directly after import EndNote only shows the records that have just been imported, so if things went wrong you can delete the records easily without damaging your original database
